Dr Mak Kai Lok

Dr. Mak is a general psychiatrist based in Hong Kong with over two decades of clinical and academic experience in mental health, gender relations, and sexual therapy. He is currently the President of the Asia Professional Association for Transgender Health (AsiaPATH) and serves on the Board of Directors of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Dr. Mak is a Certified Sex Therapist in both Hong Kong and the United States, and has been a dedicated advocate for inclusive, trauma-informed care for sexual and gender minorities across Asia

Having trained in Hong Kong, the UK, and the US, Dr. Mak has held consultant roles across Greater China, and is currently Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and Parkway Shanghai. He also holds honorary teaching appointments at both the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he contributes to training the next generation of mental health professionals.

Dr. Mak’s expertise spans general adult psychiatry, child and adolescent mental health, women mental wellness, psychosexual medicine, and transgender health. He is a frequent speaker on mental wellness, gender identity, and the intersection of mental health with social stigma, and remains deeply committed to raising awareness and improving access to quality of mental healthcare in Asia
